Well that didn’t go as expected

Well, I clearly didn’t get to posting a great deal this year 🙁 Let’s see if I can do better in the new year 🙂

I have been working on a bunch of quilts this year and maybe I’ll try to get around to posting some pictures to show my progress. But I do have some new goals for this year.

  • Sew one charity quilt every month in an attempt to use some of my fabric
  • Go through all my fabric and get rid of any that I’m never going to use
  • Finally take some of the stuff from the last Destash and finally post it on Etsy. I’m going to try to dedicate an hour a day at the start of the year to this task

Moving right along

Well, since getting home from retreat I’ve been making even more progress on my Elefant Abstraction quilt! And I found a really good way to organize my work! I’m hoping this is preparing me for my Legit Kits project that I have on the to do list.

So, I found an Elfa file drawer at a garage sale and am using that to organize. I modified the cart a little to have the folders turn sideway so I can see them better. Then I’ve put each fabric for the quilt in a plastic pocket in the hanging folder. I’ve attached a little post-it note to each folder to say what the color is and what its symbols is and then I’m trying something a little different.

Using an extra copy of the pattern that I have; I’m finding all the pieces in 10 increment groups. So, all the pieces 1-10, then all the pieces 11-20. Then I’m cutting the pattern pieces apart and sorting them by the color they are cut from. Then I’m laying out each color of fabric that I need and cutting out around each pattern piece. Then I put the pieces and the fabric (now cut pretty close to the right size) back together. All the pieces for 1 together, all the pieces for 2 together, and so forth. I’m using these foam board that I made with felt on the top. Handily, I have 10 boards, so one for each section. Then I take the boards to the sewing machine and putting them together. And then I repeat the process.

I’m trying to be really careful about cutting my fabric. Because the kit is old, the new version of the solids are a close match, but not exact. So, I don’t want to run out of fabric. Like that could ever happen 🙂

With this technique, I’ve put together all of the pieces from 1-40 and am on the 50’s right now. And I only have to go through 96.

Well made a bunch of progress!

Well, I was able to make a bunch of progress this past week! I finished several bindings My Kinda of Town, The Little Village Quilt Along, and Snowflake. I also finished the Katz Basic bag. I just need to have DH cut a plexiglass bottom for it and sew up the inside seam. And I also worked on several of the panels for the Tiny Town quilt. I’m trying to get that ready to take with me on a trip.

I also need to figure out where to take good pictures of my projects. I can’t quite figure out where I have enough space to hang the completed quilts and a good space to lay out pieces. Next week 🙂

Made a little progress

Well, I was able to make a little progress this week. I was able to cut and sew on the binding on My Kind of Town. After much back and forth, I finally settled on this grey and white fabric on the bias. I hope it looks a little like rain?

Now I just have to hand sew it on the back 🙂

Another positive today, is that I didn’t buy some fabric I didn’t need for a block exchange. I’m always so excited to work on those types of things, but I asked myself if I really wanted to work on the sew along more than on the projects on my list. And the answer was no, so I was able to leave the fabric behind. Yeah me!

First post

I created this site to help keep me accountable for all the quilting I would like to complete. And as a way to make sure I don’t purchase more stuff that I don’t have time to complete. I’m trying to make sure that for every new thing I look at, I ask myself “is this something I would rather work on than all the other projects I already have?”

And as you can see from the NESTY/UFO page, I have a lot of sewing ahead 🙂  I can’t believe how many projects I have in my head!  The list is over 140 and growing!  Now in my defense about 20 of the projects are already tops, but need to be quilted.

I’m hoping I can have those quilting while I’m working on other stuff.

What am I going to do with all these quilts!

P.S. And I have to stop updating the website and just get going!
